North Gate area, Old City, Sheng Li Road, Zuo Ying District, Kaoshioung
Under the Qin Dynasty, Mount Turtle had been enclosed by the city wall, as part of the Zuo Ying District. Thus, the old city urban planning entailed the protection of Mount Turtle natural site from the modern ever-increasing noisy outer city till today.
The protection of the historic monument and the urban development of the outer city stand in contradiction: juxtaposed housing units not only disfigure the old city wall, but also make a personal use of it.
A new path would redefine the relation between North Gate outer space and inner one, by clearing the ground floor space of the juxtaposed buildings and connecting the latter with the ancient bridle path of the old city wall.
